How to Avoid Hiring the WRONG Wedding Photographer

"Getting married for me was a great experience, and a chance to be on the other side of things.  I got to see how it feels to be the bride or groom and experience the challenges, planning and budgeting first hand." - Dave

Finding the "Style" You Love

I've heard quite a few stories and I've seen it myself, where people were disappointed with their weddings photos.  Often times when I was part of a wedding, as a DJ or other service, not photography (of course *cough*).  lol But fer realz, many have said they got some good photos, but when it came to things they asked for, or the traditional posed family and wedding party photos, they were not happy.  "The Photographer didn't help pose, and did more of what they wanted than what we wanted." Is there a point, Dave?  Why, yes there is... these people booked solely or mainly on what they saw in a Photographers' Gallery, but not at their over-all skill, support, attitude, and customer service skills.  Thus they ended up disappointed.

On top of that, one of the biggest myths is that most, or all photographers have a style. As that is true is some cases, the truth is, in most cases that the style can often times come through in the editing process.  So yes, I do have a point again... don't just book someone because you like the rustic faded look, or the heavily rich saturated colored ones. Look past that and make sure they are a good fit all around.  If you don't see the style you like, ask the photographer if they can do more styles... you may be surprised and editing can change the look of any photo.

Find Someone Who Will Treat You Like Family...

OR better, depending on your family!  RIGHT!?  We have developed so many good relationships with past couples over the years. It's awesome.  We have several that send updates, Holiday cards, texts, added us on facebook, etc. etc.  We've even done multiple weddings for the same family.  I LOVE THAT!  Who doesn't want new friends / family. That's what makes a wedding work great, friends and family.

It is way more important than you think to get to know and LIKE your photographer.  You will most likely spend a lot of time with them that day, and they SHOULD be a great asset to your day.  I have met MANY really high end, professional photographers that, to put it bluntly, I wouldn't want to spend a whole day with and FOR SURE wouldn't want to be friends with.  They are very talented, but not pleasant people sometimes.
